Groups

A group is the people you play with week in, week out, kept together in Putt. Its captains schedule the rounds, and every member's score feeds one leaderboard that runs all season. When the season ends, the captain starts a new one and the table resets, so the Wednesday fourball always knows who's on top.

Watch the walkthrough

Three seasons in, Kevin checks where he stands and which of his rounds count. He schedules the next round and sees who's in. Then he switches the season to an average, looks back at Season 2, and links a Saturday round to the group so it counts too.

How to run a group

Step 1Open Groups from your profile

On your profile, under Groups, tap Create a group, or See all once you're in one. Then choose Create Group, or Join Group if someone has sent you a code.

Step 2Create your group

Give the group a name and tap Create group. You're its captain, and Putt gives the group a 5-digit join code to share with the others.

Step 3Or join a group with its code

Type the 5-digit code your captain sent you. You join as soon as the last digit goes in.

Step 4Check the season leaderboard

The group's page shows this season's leaderboard: each player's points, Handicap Index (HI) and rounds, with your own row picked out. Above it are the shortcuts to Rounds, Stats, Members and Seasons.

Step 5See which rounds count

A player's rounds list every round they've played this season: the club, the date and their points. On an Order of Merit, the rounds that count are ticked, and the top tells you what score would push out the lowest one.

Step 6Manage your members

On Members, captains tap Add to bring more players in, and the menu beside each name to manage them.

Step 7Schedule the next round

On Rounds, tap Schedule. Pick the course, the format, the number of holes, the date and the tee time, then tap Create.

Step 8See what's coming up

Upcoming leads with the next round: when and where, who's in, and your answer. Later rounds follow, each with how far off it is.

Step 9Say if you're in

Open the round and tap View beside its participants. Tap I'm in or I'm out, and see who else has answered.

Step 10Choose how the season is won

From the gear, open Leaderboard, pick how the season is won, and tap Save.

Step 11Start a new season

Seasons shows the current season: rounds played and scheduled, who's leading and where you stand. Captains tap End season & start Season 4 to close it and start the next with a fresh leaderboard.

Played with some of the group outside a scheduled round? A captain can link it to the group, and its scores count on the leaderboard too.

Open the round, tap its settings, and under Group, tap Link Round.

The groups you captain are listed, each with the season the round would count towards. Tap one to link the round, and tap it again to unlink.

Find it with the group's rounds

A linked round shows with the group's other completed rounds, with a link icon by the club's name.

Things to know

  • Only completed scorecards count on the leaderboard, and only for people who are members of the group.
  • Guests count like any other member.
  • Order of Merit counts each player's best rounds, from 1 up to 100 of them. On the average version, players who have played the full number of rounds rank ahead of those who haven't.
  • On a Custom leaderboard, positions come from each round's own leaderboard. In a team format, every player in a team gets the team's position.
  • If the only captain leaves, another member becomes captain automatically.
  • Any round format works in a group round, including Round Leaderboards inside it.

Why we built this

Plenty of golfers play with the same people every week, and those groups keep a running tally of who's winning: in a notebook, a spreadsheet or a chat. Groups puts that tally in the app. Every round adds to it automatically, so nobody has to keep score of the scores.

The screenshots and video use example players, not real people.
