Golf Days
A golf day is a one-off event (a company day, a charity fundraiser, a society outing) run as its own competition. The organiser sets it up in the Putt web portal and adds the players, and everyone scores live from their phones with a leaderboard that updates as the cards come in.

Kevin's organiser added him, so the golf day is waiting on his Home screen. After the round, the leaderboard still stops at 15 holes, keeping the prize-giving a surprise.
How to play in a golf day
Step 1Find it on your Home screen
If the organiser added you, the golf day is under Upcoming rounds on your Home screen. Tap View Round.
Step 2Set up your fourball
Before the day, the round shows when scoring opens. If the organiser hasn't put you in a fourball, Let's go! sets yours up.
Step 3Or join with the code
If you weren't added, ask the organiser for the golf day's five-digit code. From the app's start button choose Join a round, and enter it.
Step 4Follow the leaderboard
The leaderboard updates as scores come in. If the organiser has limited it, everyone sees only the first holes, even after submitting their card, until the results are announced.

Sam opens the golf day, checks the players and the fourballs, and sets the leaderboard to stop at 15 holes. After the round, Sam works out the 2 Club pot, picks the jackpot holes and gets ready to draw Mystery Pairs.
How to run a golf day
For anyone organising a golf day, in the Putt web portal. Club admins do the same from the club portal, with their own club's courses.
Step 1Use your voucher
Call Mitchell on (+27) 64 902 2569 for a voucher. On Golf Days, enter the voucher code and select Use Voucher. Your golf days are listed below, and the eye button opens one.
Step 2Create the golf day
Give it a name, then choose the course, the game type, the handicap allowance, 9 or 18 holes and the date, and whether it's a shotgun start. Create Golf Day uses the voucher and opens the golf day.
Step 3Add the players
On Registrations, Add imports your attendee list from our spreadsheet template (Import many), or adds one player at a time (Single). Anyone without a Putt account gets one, with an email to sign in and find the golf day in their app. Players can also join with the code shown at the top of the page.
Step 4Set up the fourballs
On Fourballs, Add fourball creates a group with its starting hole, and you add the registered players to it. This is optional: players can set up their own fourballs on the day.
Step 5Choose what the leaderboard shows
Under Settings, Advanced, Mobile Leaderboard Limit stops the app's leaderboard after a number of holes, so the last holes stay a secret until the prize-giving. A golf day keeps it limited even for players who have submitted, unless you switch on Show the full leaderboard once a player submits. You can also require the invite code, turn on verifications and set the handicap allowance.
On the day
At the top of the golf day, Live Leaderboard opens a leaderboard for a screen at the venue, and Round report downloads the results as a spreadsheet, hole by hole.
Run the prize-giving games
The Games tab has three side competitions for the prize-giving, worked out from the players' cards: the 2 Club, the Jackpot and Mystery Pairs.
Step 1Split the 2 Club pot
The 2 Club lists every gross 2 on a submitted card, on any hole, and a hole in one counts as a 2. Type the entry per player and Putt works out the pot and what each 2 wins: R30 from 16 players is R480, or R80 a 2. Copy payouts copies the list to paste into WhatsApp. The entry isn't saved, so type it on the day.
Step 2Pick the jackpot holes
Pick the holes the jackpot is played on. The player with the most points on them wins (the fewest strokes, gross or net, in a medal format), and a tie is called out so you can split the pot. Your picked holes are remembered in that browser only.
Step 3Draw Mystery Pairs
Once the cards are in, choose pairs or fourballs and a format, then Draw and download. Putt draws random partners from the players who've submitted their cards, scores each team and downloads the results as a spreadsheet. Each download is a new draw, so download once and use that sheet at the prize-giving.
Sponsors on the day
A golf day's sponsors can show in the players' app all day, not only on a banner at the clubhouse. Putt sets this up for you: tell Mitchell who your sponsors are, and where you'd like them, when you book your voucher.
Hole sponsors
Each hole can have its own sponsor. The first time a player reaches a sponsored hole, the app shows the sponsor's advert with "Sponsored by" and their name, and a button to play the hole. While they score that hole, a card with the sponsor's logo and name sits above the scores, and tapping it shows the advert again. The advert can link to the sponsor's website.
For each hole sponsor we need:
- the sponsor's name, as players should see it;
- an advert, 1200 x 675 pixels;
- a square logo, 400 x 400 pixels;
- a link, if they'd like one.
The rest of the round
A sponsor can also have the advert spots that come with the round itself. On your golf day these show your sponsor rather than the club's or Putt's:
- the round's leaderboard in the app;
- the summary at the turn, on an 18-hole round;
- the round summary when a fourball submits its cards;
- the round's stats;
- the banner along the bottom of the Live Leaderboard on the clubhouse screen, where several sponsors can take turns.
For these spots we need a wide advert, 1050 x 300 pixels, and for the clubhouse screen a banner, 1500 x 200 pixels.
Your own logo and banner are separate, and free: upload them under Settings, Branding, and they show on the golf day's card in players' apps.
Things to know
- One voucher sets up one golf day. Deleting a golf day doesn't give the voucher back.
- A golf day has a date, not a tee time. Shotgun start can only be chosen when you create it.
- Running an event over more than one round? Use a golf-day tournament, with a voucher for each round.
- Club admins see only their own club's courses when they create a golf day.
- Players never need Putt Premium to play in a golf day.
Why we built this
A lot of golf is organised outside any club competition: a company day, a school reunion, a fundraiser. Those organisers need proper scoring and a results table on the day, without setting up a club to get it. A golf day gives them the same live scoring and leaderboard clubs get, for one event, and the limit on the leaderboard keeps the prize-giving worth waiting for.
