Divisions
Divisions split one field into separate competitions, scored side by side from the same round: an A and a B division by handicap, a ladies' division, or juniors and seniors. Each has its own format, its own leaderboard and its own winner, and Putt puts every player in the right one.

How to follow your division
Step 1Open the round
A competition with divisions says so on the round, in a card under your fourball.
Step 2Check the divisions
Tap Details to see each division: who it's for, its handicap or age range, and its format.
Step 3Follow your division's leaderboard
Open the Leaderboard. Each division has its own tab, and its own winner.
Step 4See how the other divisions are going
Tap another division's tab to see its standings.
Setting it up
For club admins, in the Putt club portal. Divisions are part of the competition, so they're chosen when it's created:
- A club competition: in Club Comps, pick the Divisions round type, then whether divisions go by Handicap Index or Playing Handicap.
- A tournament: the Putt team sets it up with you as a Divisions (e.g. Club Champs) tournament (see Tournaments), and its divisions are added on its setup screen, below.
Step 1Add your divisions
Add each division with its name, its format and who it's for, then Add division. Each has its own Game type (IPS, Medal (Gross) or Medal (Net) on a tournament), can be for men or ladies only or left on All, and is decided by handicap index, playing handicap or age between a minimum and a maximum. A handicap division also sets the Handicap allowance (%) its players get.
Putt checks the divisions as you add them, so no player can end up in two:
- Divisions for the same gender can't overlap. A man off 9 can't fit both "0 to 10" and "9 to 15".
- Every division for the same gender goes by the same thing, all handicap index or all playing handicap.
- Once a tournament has rounds, its divisions are locked. Delete the rounds first if you need to change them.
Once the competition is running, its Divisions tab shows who's in each division. If a player lands in the wrong one, open their scorecard and use Change Division.
Things to know
- You never pick your division. Putt places you from your gender, your handicap and, for age divisions, your date of birth.
- A competition sets its divisions by handicap index or by playing handicap, and Putt uses whichever it was set up with.
- If you don't fit any division, Putt tells you when you set up your round, and you can't start until it's sorted. Adding a missing date of birth or SA Player ID often fixes it.
- The same goes for anyone you add to your fourball: they need to fit a division, and age divisions need their date of birth.
- There's no overall leaderboard in a competition with divisions, only each division's board.
- If you've been put in the wrong division, your club can move you from your scorecard in the club portal.
- A tournament with divisions shows them on the tournament too. Knockout tournaments don't use divisions.
Why we built this
A single overall result is rarely a fair one. Put a 4-handicap and a 24-handicap in the same competition and the format alone decides who can realistically win it, which is why almost every club competition is split into divisions. Before Putt did it, that split happened on paper after the round, with someone re-sorting a printed leaderboard by handicap. Now every division has a live, correct leaderboard from the first hole.
